Since my last post on this blog, I have taken two short trips: the first for work to Belfast; the second to stay with my family in south west England. I have a love/hate relationship with flying. I hate all the waiting around, the endless corridors, the sense of helplessness. But I especially love short flights and that feeling of using planes like buses. And I always get a childish frisson of excitement when looking at my home from the air, especially if I can get a great shot like the one above of the three bridges spanning the Firth of Forth.
My four recent flights were happily pretty smooth and have inspired me to gather some flight-themed tracks together for this week’s playlist.
First up is this gorgeously groovy rendition of the classic Fly Me To The Moon by Julie London:
No flight-themed list would be complete for me at least without this track, which I absolutely love. Even though the lyrics are poignant, I really like the driving rhythm and harmonies:
Regular readers of this blog will know that it always makes me very happy to squeeze an ABBA track into a playlist. This week, I feel it is not too much of a stretch to include the amazing Eagle (“flying high, high, I’m a bird in the sky…..):
For the next track, I’m using Wings as the link to the main theme. I love this track, principally for the bagpipes, which cannae be beat:
And as a bonus, get ready for some laughs with the wonderful Fascinating Aida and their hilarious (and accurate) song Cheap Flights:
I hope you have enjoyed this week’s musical selections. Do please let me know what you think, and of course, let me know which flight-themed tracks you would have picked. 🙂
