All eyes are on Britain at the moment, with the start of the 2012 Olympics. Wasn’t that opening ceremony last night just the best thing?
It is totally fitting, therefore, that the next set of music to be listened to is the work of Eric Coates – that well known composer of English light music.
Can there be anything more evocative of English life than some of Coates’ most famous pieces – Calling All Workers, By A Sleepy Lagoon (used by the BBC for its Desert Island Discs Programme since 1942 amazingly enough), and The Dam Busters.
The perfect accompaniment to quintessentially English past-times, such as afternoon tea;
a game of cricket;
or a spot of croquet.
We Brits can’t get enough of that croquet…
Come on Team GB! 🙂
